BREAKING: INEC Fixes Presidential Poll For February 20 2027 After Releasing Election Timetable
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially unveiled the schedule for Nigeria’s 2027 General Elections, with the Presidential and National Assembly polls set to take place on Saturday, February 20, 2027.
The timetable was released amid growing concerns over the delayed passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill currently before the National Assembly. However, INEC had confirmed on February 4 that planning for the election calendar had already been finalised.
According to the schedule, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on February 20, 2027. Governorship and State House of Assembly elections will follow two weeks later, on Saturday, March 6, 2027.
INEC also outlined campaign periods for political parties. Campaigns for the Presidential and National Assembly elections will run from November 18, 2026, to February 19, 2027. For Governorship and State Assembly elections, campaigns will begin on December 15, 2026, and end on March 5, 2027 24 hours before the polls.
Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) is scheduled to commence in April 2026 and close in January 2027, providing eligible citizens ample time to register or update their information.
Political parties are required to hold primaries between July 1 and September 30, 2026. Submission of candidates’ lists to INEC is set for October 1 to October 31, 2026, with the final list of candidates slated for publication on November 15, 2026.
