The Lagos State Government has shut down Ladipo Spare Parts Market along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road due to repeated environmental breaches.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the development in a post shared on 𝕏 on Sunday.

The Genius Media Nigeria reports that the market, located on the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway, was sealed after authorities observed indiscriminate waste disposal on roads and illegal street trading activities.

The closure was carried out by the Lagos taskforce, which continues to enforce the state’s environmental laws.

The government has warned that such actions are necessary to maintain public health, safety, and cleanliness across Lagos.

Ladipo Market has previously been sanctioned for similar offenses but was reopened after meeting required sanitation and waste management standards.

Officials stated that markets in Lagos must strictly follow environmental rules to prevent hazards and disorder.

Wahab wrote: “Lagos State government, this morning, sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) over repeated environmental infractions; indiscriminate refuse disposal on the median/highway and illegal street trading. #ZeroToleranceLagos.”

In other news, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has described the life imprisonment of Okpara Onyekachi as a landmark victory for justice and road safety enforcement in Nigeria.

TGM reports that the Lagos State High Court, TBS Division, handed down the judgment in suit number LD/24692C/2024, arising from a fatal accident that claimed the life of a serving FRSC officer.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the incident occurred on November 16, 2023, at Orile-Iganmu, Lagos, during a routine traffic patrol.
