BREAKING: Real Reason Why Mohammed Badaru Abubakar Resigns As Defence Minister Revealed
Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has resigned as the Minister of Defence in the cabinet of President Bola Tinubu.
The Genius Media Nigeria understands that the resignation is with immediate effect.
According to his resignation letter, dated December 1, 2025, the former Jigawa State Governor cited health reasons for his decision.
A State House correspondence on the matter, signed by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that President Tinubu has accepted the resignation, thanked him for his service, and is expected to notify the Senate of a successor later this week.
Badaru was appointed as Minister in the Tinubu cabinet on August 21, 2023.
His resignation comes amid President Tinubu’s declaration of a national security emergency, with plans to elaborate on its scope in due course.
It would be recalled that President Tinubu had recently named Badaru as part of the US-Nigeria Joint Working Group as part of steps to deepen collaboration in tackling security challenges in the country.
TGM reports that this was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The composition of the Joint Working Group was part of the agreement reached during the recent trip to Washington, DC, by a high-level Nigerian delegation led by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Ribadu is to lead the Nigerian side of the Joint Working Group, supported by a multi-stakeholder team comprising senior officials from relevant government establishments.
With his resignation, Badaru is expected to be replaced on the working group.
