Court orders Nnamdi Kanu out of courtroom during terrorism trial proceedings
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered security agents to remove IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu from the courtroom after he insisted that judgment could not be delivered in the terrorism case filed against him by the Federal Government.
Kanu repeatedly demanded that the court explain where it was written in law that he was not entitled to file a written address, prompting the trial judge to temporarily halt proceedings for security operatives to escort him out.
The court had dismissed several fresh motions filed by Kanu, noting that they raised issues previously addressed in the trial. Among the motions, Kanu requested that the case be referred to the Court of Appeal and sought bail, both of which the court denied. Justice Omotosho cited Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, which forbids the stay of proceedings in criminal matters.
As the judge attempted to commence the reading of the judgment, Kanu resisted, shouting that the court lacked jurisdiction to proceed without accepting his written address.
The case remains under close observation as the court moves to deliver its ruling on the terrorism charges against IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
