JJUST IN: Galatasaray Confirm Victor Osimhen’s Injury As Troost-Ekong Considers Leaving Super Eagles
Galatasaray have confirmed that Victor Osimhen picked up a hamstring injury, adding to the fallout from Nigeria’s failure to reach the 2026 World Cup.
The Genius Media Nigeria reports that Osimhen was forced off during Sunday night’s playoff final against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He did not return for the second half, and Jerome Adams Akor replaced him for the rest of the match.
Upon his arrival back in Turkey, the striker went for an MRI scan to determine the severity of the problem.
The Turkish champions released an update on Wednesday on their official website, explaining the results of the test.
“In the MRI examination performed today at our sponsor hospital, Acıbadem, our football player Victor Osimhen, a moderate level of strain (strain and bleeding) was detected in his left posterior muscle, and treatment has been started,” the statement read.
With that diagnosis, Osimhen is now expected to sit out Galatasaray’s meeting with Gençlerbirliği on Saturday, and his recovery timeline will depend on how his muscle responds to treatment.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong is said to be thinking about stepping away from international duty after Nigeria missed out on the World Cup.
The suggestion came from journalist MikeThePundit, who reported that the defender spoke openly in the dressing room after the defeat to DR Congo on Sunday.
According to him, Troost-Ekong is not certain he wants to continue with the national team ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Troost-Ekong is considering retirement from the Super Eagles. The captain told the players after the DR Congo game, “I will watch you as a fan at the AFCON,” he wrote on 𝕏.
Troost-Ekong, 32, has seen limited minutes with the team in recent matches and has not started any of their last three fixtures.
There has been no official word from the player himself, but the situation has already sparked plenty of reaction from fans who view him as one of the squad’s leaders
