A check on the INEC website at 3:52 p.m. on Saturday showed that results from 2,116 polling units had been uploaded out of 5,718, where the election is holding.

According to INEC, Anambra State has 2,802,790 registered voters, with women slightly outnumbering men.

Breakdown:

Female: 1,430,323 (51.03%)

Male: 1,372,467 (48.97%)

Students constitute the largest voting bloc at 29.31%, followed by:

Traders: 18.47%

Businessmen/women: 17.83%

TGM had earlier reported that voting commenced around 8:30 a.m. in many of the state’s 5,720 polling units, spread across the 21 local government areas.

The exercise was largely peaceful, though marred by low turnout and widespread reports of vote buying across several communities.

Although 16 political parties are participating in the election, four candidates have emerged as the major contenders:

Charles Soludo (APGA, incumbent)

Nicholas Ukachukwu (APC)
