The United States government has revoked about 80,000 visas, including those of several Nigerians, following a review targeting holders linked to criminal or security offences.
In a statement on Thursday, the U.S. Department of State said the move was part of the Trump administration’s efforts to protect Americans, describing it as “promises made, promises kept.”
According to the breakdown, 16,000 visas were revoked for driving under the influence (DUI), 12,000 for assault, and 8,000 for theft. Others were linked to terrorism, public safety threats, or visa overstays.
The department reaffirmed its strict immigration stance, saying it would continue to act against any foreign nationals posing risks to national security or public order.
