Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is set to grace the final of the Zenith Bank/Delta State Principal’s Cup on November 6.

The organisers of the competition have announced November 6 as the new date for the third-place and final matches at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

The initial date of October 16 was changed after a protest was initiated against one of the finalists, Otokutu Grammar School, Ughelli South, following allegations that the team fielded an ineligible player in their semi-final victory against Urhobo College, Uvwie.

After investigation, Otokutu was sanctioned and will now play the third-place game against Justice Peace & Success Academy, Aniocha South, while the final will be between Ogbe-ijoh Grammar School, Warri South West, and Urhobo College, Uvwie.

According to the organisers, Governor Oborevwori, alongside some members of his cabinet, is going to be physically present for the final.

The sponsors of the tournament, Zenith Bank PLC, appreciated the organisers for maintaining the integrity of the competition while also reiterating their commitment to continue to invest in the youth of Nigeria, especially through sports.

The rescheduling of the final followed due process after complaints were lodged regarding the eligibility of a player who featured for Otokutu Grammar School in the semi-final stage.

Ogbe-Ijoh Grammar School advanced to the final after their semi-final victory, while Urhobo College, Uvwie, were reinstated to the final following the disqualification of Otokutu Grammar School.

The tournament has provided a platform for young footballers across Delta State to showcase their talents and has been instrumental in identifying promising players for higher levels of competition.

The Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba will host both the third-place match and the final on the same day, with football enthusiasts across the state expected to turn out in large numbers to support their schools.
