Wumi Toriola Bombs Afeez Owo Publicly After Comparing Her To Mide Martins
The Genius Media Nigeria reports that Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has hit back at veteran movie director Afeez Owo over comments he made during a recent podcast interview comparing her to his wife, actress Mide Martins.
Speaking on the African A-List podcast, Afeez Owo suggested that while Mide’s on-screen characters differ from her calm personality in real life, Wumi’s movie roles closely reflect her off-screen temperament. He added that “violence is her comfort zone” and described her as someone who reacts quickly when provoked.
Reacting in a now-deleted Instagram video, Wumi did not hold back, dismissing the filmmaker’s remarks as “rubbish.” She questioned why personal differences must be aired on public platforms, saying:
“Must every rift be taken to podcasts? They gave you a mic, and you started saying rubbish. After they entertained you with pepper soup, you started blabbing. Am I a mad woman? If people don’t offend me, will I be angry?”
The actress further expressed disappointment, noting that she has never disrespected Owo despite what she described as his “unfortunate behaviour.”
Both Wumi Toriola and Mide Martins are popular for portraying fiery and hot-tempered characters in Nollywood movies, a reputation that has occasionally spilled into off-screen perceptions.
