Dawn Project Announces 2024 Oceans Of Opportunity Competition

Dawn Project Announces 2024 Oceans Of Opportunity Competition—Dawn Project has announced the launch of its annual climate change competition for the year 2024 with the theme – Oceans of Opportunity; Preserving Today for Tomorrow.

 

The yearly program which is dedicated to addressing the consequences of climate change, plastic pollution and ecosystem/biodiversity degradation was flagged off recently at the Landmark Beach Lagos.

 

This year’s Dawn Project competition offers opportunities for different categories of children and adults to participate in bringing the theme, Oceans of Opportunity; Preserving Today for Tomorrow alive through artistic expression ultimately geared towards ensuring cleaner and healthier environment be beneficial to the well-being of all citizens, and by extension, the world at large.

 

The competition seeks creative solutions and perspectives on the myriad of environmental issues assailing the world at the moment.

 

Shedding light on the Oceans of Opportunity; Preserving Today for Tomorrow, The Founder of The Dawn Project Dr. Pamela Ajayi, reiterated the key goal’s of the 2024 competition, “The theme “”Oceans of Opportunity: Preserving Today for Tomorrow” conveys the idea that our oceans hold incredible potential and opportunities. Oceans play an essential role in the fight against climate change and the creation of a sustainable future but it’s our responsibility to preserve them for future generations. Oceans are a cornerstone of the Earth’s climate system, serving as major carbon sinks and heat absorbers, thus helping regulate global temperatures.

 

This theme serves as a reminder of the positive impact ocean conservation can have on our environment and society”

 

Dawn Projects invites everybody to send in their entries for the Oceans of Opportunity; Preserving Today for Tomorrow competition according to the different categories available which includes adults aged 18 years and above, senior students aged 14-17 years and junior students aged 7-13 years. Contestant may submit their written works in the form of essay or poetry; creative designs in the form of artwork, painting, drawing or innovative graphics; and musical art in form of an original song with their own sound.

 

All entries are expected to draw its inspiration from the theme of this year’s competition and be submitted through www.dawnproject.org . The organizers however noted that any entry discovered to have been generated through Artificial Intelligence (AI) or plagiarism of any form will be automatically disqualified from the competition.

 

The Honorable Commissioner of Health Lagos State, Prof Akin Abayomi, ably represented by Mr. Desmond Majekodunmi, delivered the first keynote address titled “Oceans of Opportunity: Preserving Today for Tomorrow”. While the second keynote address titled “The Importance of Sustainability of the Environment” was delivered by Mr. Johnny Baxter, British Deputy High Commissioner, ably represented by Kris Camponi, the Head of Missions, British Deputy High Commission. Others present at the announcement were Dawn Project Co-Collaborators Mr. Stanley Evans and Mr. Desmond Majekodunmi, Chief Olalekan Bakare, Aro Oba Elegushi of IkateLand Mr. Paul Onwuanibe, CEO Landmark Holdings, Mrs. TokunboAwogboro Mr. Gboyega Edu Ms. Doyinsola Ogunye, Founder Kids Beach Garden/RESWAYE and Mr. Victory Ashaka, Dawn Project Ambassador.

 

The Dawn Project debuted the first competition five years ago and has continued to push the agenda of fighting climate change and promoting a sustainable environmental consciousness. Aside from offering contestant the opportunity to express their ideas through their preferred creative mediums, it has also continue to raise the awareness level especially among the youths, about the danger that some of the seemingly innocent human actions and behaviour portend for the health of the world. Indeed.

 

The organisers engages in roadshows in secondary schools to groom the next generation of environmentalists; embarks on planting of trees around the nations and create awareness about actions that harm the environment. Go to www.dawnproject.org for more information.

 

Some schools that were present at the announcement include Bright Sun College, Ikeja, Priory Preparatory School – Ikoyi, Corona School – Agbara, Vivian Fowler Memorial School for Girls, Kings College, Queens College and University of Lagos College of Medicine, Idi-araba. The organisers are inviting students and creative and indeed every Nigerian to lend their voice to the quest for a better and sustainable environment by participating in the 2024 Dawn Competition with the theme: Oceans of Opportunity; Preserving Today for Tomorrow.
