BREAKING: 60-Year-Old Man Charged With #Tupac Shakur’s Murder After 27 Years—-Las Vegas police have charged a man over the drive-by shooting of hip-hop star Tupac Shakur 27 years ago.
According to Sky News, Duane ‘Keffe’ D Davis has been charged after being arrested earlier today.
The publication notes that a Nevada grand jury has indicted the 60-year-old on a charge of murder, with use of a deadly weapon.
Davis is the uncle of Orlando Anderson, who is said to have been involved in a casino brawl with Shakur and was one of his known rivals.
Shakur was 25 when he was gunned down in a drive-by shooting near the Las Vegas Strip on the night of September 7, 1996.
The arrest earlier today is said to have come two months after Las Vegas police raided a home in connection to the murder.
In a statement shared with Metro.co.uk at the time, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) said: ‘LVMPD can confirm a search warrant was served in Henderson, Nevada on July 17, 2023, as part of the ongoing Tupac Shakur homicide investigation.
‘We will have no further comment at this time.’
Shakur was in the passenger’s seat of a BMW in a convoy of others when, as they waited for a red light, someone in a white Cadillac opened fire on him.
He died a week later from multiple gunshot wounds to the arm, thigh, right lung and chest.
In his short five years making music, Shakur cemented himself as one of the most influential rappers of all time with hits like All Eyez on Me. He sold a staggering 75 million records worldwide.
His death has long been associated with the death of the Notorious B.I.G, after he was shot and killed six months later in March 1997, and to the East Coast/West Coast rivalry.
His life and legacy have continued to impact and influence culture today, from a groundbreaking performance via hologram at the 2012 Coachella Music Festival, to a spoken-word appearance on Kendrick Lamar’s 2015 album To Pimp A Butterfly.
In June this year the rapper received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
