JUST IN: Ahmed Lawan Re-elected [SEE ELECTION RESULTS] – #2023GeneralElections—Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, has won the senatorial election in Yobe North after 23 years in the National Assembly.
The position was strongly contested between the two major political parties in the state, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Announcing the result at Umar Suleiman College of Education Gashua, the Returning Officer of the zone, Professor Omolola Aduoju of the Federal University, said Lawan polled 91,318 votes to defeat his rival Ilu Alhaji-Bello of the PDP, who got 22,849 votes out of the 122,136 total valid votes cast.
Lawan, who will return to the National Assembly after spending 23 years in both the Green and Red chambers, represents Yobe North.
The senate president was first elected to the House of Representatives for the constituency of Bade/Jakusko in 1999 and was elected to the Senate in 2007.
