He made this known via his official twitter handle.
The 45-year-old, widely regarded as one the best players in the history of the sport, originally announced his retirement in 2022 but reversed his decision to play another year for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
However, following their season-ending play-off defeat to the Dallas Cowboys, Brady has decided to bring to an end a stellar career.
“Good morning, guys. I’ll get to the point. I’m retiring. For good,” he said in a video on Twitter.
“I know the process was a pretty big deal last time so when I woke up this morning, I figured press record and let you guys know first.
“It won’t be long winded. You only get one super-emotional retirement essay and I used mine up last year.
“I really thank you guys so much. To every single one of you for supporting me. My family, my friends, my team-mates, my competitors… I could go on forever, there’s too many.
“Thank you guys for helping me live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change a thing. Love you all.”
