JUST IN: Floyd #Mayweather Set To Fight At O2 Arena In London For First Time Ever—–Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has announced plans to fight in the UK for the very first time.
Mayweather will make his British debut with an exhibition bout against Liam Harrison on February 25 at the O2 Arena in London. Money, who turns 46 the day before the scheduled event, confirmed the exciting news on Instagram by sharing a poster for the match-up.
He captioned it with: “#London February 25th, It’s official. My first exhibition fight in the UK will be at the O2 Arena. Tickets go on sale next week. Stay Tuned!!”
Harrison, who is 37, is a decorated Muay Thai fighter from Leeds. Nicknamed “The Hitman,” the Yorkshire-born star has fought in 90 kickboxing contests, winning 44.
Although that is an impressive record, it doesn’t hold a candle to Mayweather’s. The American went unbeaten in his professional boxing career, winning all 50 of his fights. That record includes victories over legends of the ring such as Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez and Oscar de la Hoya.
Mayweather ended his professional boxing career in 2017 following a bizarre match-up against UFC star Conor McGregor. Money defeated the Irishman by TKO in the 10th round.
Despite his long and distinguished career in the ring, Mayweather never fought outside of the United States. He has changed that since turning to the exhibition circuit, taking in stops in Japan and the UAE.
Unsurprisingly, the 45-year-old remains unbeaten in exhibitions, defeating Tenshin Nasukawa, Mikuru Asakura and Deji Olatunji. He also faced Logan Paul and Don Moore in non-scoring bouts.
Mayweather recently hinted that the UK would feature on his exhibition tour, saying: “In February we’re looking forward to coming here and putting on an exhibition for the fans in the UK, because I never had a chance to come over here and fight when I was actively boxing as a professional.
“So hopefully in February I’ll come over and do an exhibition if it’s possible.”
Now he has delivered on that promise – much to the delight of UK-based boxing fans. “Yessss sir . Lets goooooooo,” wrote one fan.
Someone else said: “Time to go to London I guess.” As another user added: “It’s about time champ.”
