Hijrah 1444 AH: JNI Wishes Muslims Happy Islamic New Year—Muslim group, Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI), on Saturday, wished Muslims the world over and in Nigeria, a happy Islamic New Year 1444 Hijrah.
The Secretary General of JNI, Dr Kahlid Aliyu, said in a statement issued in Kaduna that “we particularly wish Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the President-General of JNI and Sultan of Sokoto, and the Muslim ummah across the country a prosperous and peaceful new Hijrah year.
The Islamic New Year — also known as the Arabic New Year or Hijrah New Year — is the first day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar.
The starting point of the Islamic calendar is in Gregorian CE 622 AD when Prophet Muhammad migrated from Mecca to Medina with his companions.
The secretary general, therefore, quoted the Sultan as saying “JNI calls on Nigerian Muslims to please in the name of Allah, the Most High, not to relent in supplicating to Allah for His intervention for an end to the myriads of challenges bedevilling the country.”
Aliyu stated that the Sultan had also called for special prayers for peace, unity in the country, adding that “with the 2023 general elections fast approaching, we need to seek Allah’s intervention for stability, security, peace and development.
“May we witness economic prosperity, stability, peace, law and order in Nigeria and the world at large.”
