2023: Woman Presidential Aspirant Woos JNI And CAN—A presidential aspirant on the platform of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Ms Patience Key on Thursday, visited the Jama’atu Nasril Islam(JNI) and the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN) in Plateau to intimate the associations of her desire to become the country’s leader in 2023.
Key said that the visit to the two religious bodies was a familiarisation tour in respect of their key roles in the society , before the take off of campaign activities .
She said religion was about doing good to one another while collaborating to work together irrespective of religious and ethnic differences for the good of the nation.
“In 2023, we want a better Nigeria, we want a better us, because without human beings there will be no nation; I have taken the mantle to run for president in 2023 on the platform of PRP,” she said.
She said that the 2023 contest for presidency in Nigeria had given women hope in vying for key leadership position in the country.
The religious bodies commended Key for her courage.
The leader of JNI in Plateau, Alhaji Sambo Haruna while receiving the aspirant, said that it was encouraging to see young people and women vying for key positions in the country.
The chairman who was represented by the state organising secretary, Alhaji Ado Ismaila, said that women had bemoaned being marginalised in the society and her aspiration would be a beacon of hope to them.
“I want to appreciate your courage; women are complaining everyday of being left out. I want to encourage you sincerely,” he said .
Also the chairman of CAN in Plateau, Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lubo, told Key that her aspiration would create opportunities to carry women along in governance which would positively impact on the progress of the nation.
“Do not forget you will be an emblem for other women; women will know how to put checks and balances when in leadership to address corruption because of their roles as mothers.
“People are always afraid of having women in a position because they will not have their ways. She must scrutinise everything and it is a gift that God gave them,” he said.
He assured the aspirant of prayers from CAN and wish her well, saying “it is not going to be easy on you , it is a big hurdle but the God that you serve would make all the hurdles easier,”.
He urged women to also aspire for governorship positions in the country while urging Nigerians to vote good leaders, irrespective of their parties to shore up development in the country .
