Since the incident occurred, many had said it was a publicity stunt but Michelle maintains that she did not fake the experience.
Recalling what happened on the day, she told Punch Sunday Scoop, “I went to the beach with my sister and friends to have fun. I was making a video with my phone close to the water when the water swept me away, and that was the last thing I remembered until I woke up to see people surrounding me. Someone was also trying to press water off my body. After I woke up and threw up some water, I fell asleep again.

“I cannot say precisely how long I was under water but when I opened my eyes the first time, it was still dark. I think it was around 9pm. It’s not true that I was under water for 24 hours.”
According to her, when she was taken to the hospital, doctors told her that her alcohol intake on the day could be responsible for her not remembering what actually happened. She said, “After asking what had happened, the doctor said it could have been alcohol that didn’t make me remember what happened. I was asked to do a brain test because I had a severe headache like a migraine, and I couldn’t remember anything.”

Michelle also alleged that she had been getting threats since the incident. She said, “I have had to put a hold on my career and not do a lot of things because of this incident. People have also been threatening me, saying that since I created a (publicity) stunt that I was dead, they would kill me for real. I have had to move away from my former home because of that.”

Reacting to those who believe the incident was a publicity stunt, she said, “I don’t blame anybody (for thinking that way). I was not brought out of the water immediately like the video showed. Nobody knew that by the time the video was made, I had slept, eaten and water had been pressed out of my body by then.
