CHIWETALU AGU: How Soldiers And DSS Treated Me Over #Biafran Emblem Material—-The Genius Media Nigeria reports that Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has narrated how he was treated by the men of the Nigerian Army and the operatives of the Department of State Services after his arrest.
The 67-year-old who was first arrested by soldiers in Onitsha, Anambra State on Thursday, October 7, after he was spotted wearing an outfit made from the Biafran flag was released on Friday with the help of the national president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, only to be rearrested by the DSS who claimed that the Nigerian Army handed him over to them.
With the help of constitutional lawyer and rights activist Mike Ozekhome, the actor was released from the DSS custody in Abuja.
In a welcome back event organised by the actors guild in Enugu on Thursday, the veteran disclosed that none of the operatives ‘touched’ him, he also added that he was treated with respect while in detention.
“It didn’t start well but God took control. I was only buying bread for the poor. Soldiers came in and started scattering things. They said they are calling me in the office but they did not tell me my offense. Because they did not tell me my offence, I refused to follow them.
“That drama that took place was important so that they will know that Igbo are here. That moment of Upper Iweka till the time we got to the army barracks close to Zik Mausoleum, to 82 Division of the Nigerian Army and to DSS office in Abuja, nobody touched me. They treated me with respect. Every officer wanted to be involved in the case so that they can have the opportunity to interact with Chinwetalu Agu,” he said.
