NNPC Reacts As Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) Shelves Nationwide Strike—-As the planned nationwide strike expected to be embarked upon today by the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) was called off on Sunday, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has reiterated its resolve to actively participate in finding a quick and effective solution to the concerns raised by the Tanker Drivers Union which is a branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, to prevent a future recurrence.

NUPENG had said on Saturday that the tanker drivers would commence strike on Monday over the deplorable state of the nation’s highways and other issues, after the ultimatum given to the federal government expired on Friday, October 8, 2021. The leaders of PTD had on September 25, issued the ultimatum.

However, it took the Timely intervention and intensive engagement of NNPC, involving the leadership of the PTD, and other government agencies to appeal to the warren driver to shelve the planned strike.

The NNPC earlier on Sunday had appealed to the drivers to immediately shelve their planned strike in order not to further hurt the economy and Nigerians in general.

Meanwhile, in a release signed by Mr Garba Deen Muhammad, NNPC spokesman in Abuja immediately after the call off of the proposed strike, the NNPC appreciated the maturity and patriotism of the leadership of the Petrol Tankers for putting the nation first.

The release reads:

“The Petroleum Tanker Drivers have called off their planned strike action.
This development came after intensive engagement involving the leadership of the PTD, NNPC officials and other government agencies.

NNPC wishes to appreciate the maturity and patriotism of the leadership of the PTD, and to also reiterate its resolve to actively participate in finding a quick and effective solution to the concerns raised by the PTD.”
