THE World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned Nigerians against unauthorised and indiscriminate use of Chloroquine for the treatment of Coronavirus disease.

WHO said it had not adopted the use of Chloroquine for the treatment of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

Representatives of WHO in Ogun State, Dr. Akinola Fatiregun and Dr. Shamsu Abdul made this known at the weekend while sensitising students during the Swear-in ceremony of the National Executives of the National Association of Ogun Students (NAOSS) in Abeokuta, the State cpital.

Akinola and Shamsu who spoke separately, said there is no evidence yet to prove that Chloroquine is a medication for Coronavirus in Nigeria.

They noted that the treatment procedures adopted for the disease in Nigeria were the designated treatment centres across the country.

“We (WHO) do not have any evidence for us here in Nigeria that chloroquine is the medication. We have not adopted it. The protocol for Nigeria is where we have places we have treatment centres.”

“In other places where they are using chloroquine, they already have what we call community transmission everywhere. Because we don’t have community transmission here and there is no evidence that chloroquine is actually the medication.”

“So, for us here (Nigeria) it is not part of our treatment protocol because we follow protocol,” the WHO official, said.

Also speaking, Governor Dapo Abiodun reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing qualitative and quantitative education to the people of the State.
