Cristiano Ronaldo is remaining in quarantine in his Madeira home after Juventus team-mate Daniele Rugani tested positive for coronavirus.
The Portuguese star flew to his homeland to visit his mother, who recently suffered a stroke, before the news broke and must stay put rather than fly back to northern Italy where the outbreak is at its most rampant.
Everybody involved in the game between Juventus and Inter Milan have been told that they must quarantine on the back of Rugani’s diagnosis.
The Serie A was suspended on Tuesday as the virus continues to spread across Italy, with the whole country placed on lockdown.
Juventus have confirmed the news in a statement, insisting he is not currently suffering from any symptoms.
It read: “The footballer Daniele Rugani has tested positive for Coronavirus-COVID-19 and is currently asymptomatic.
“Juventus Football Club is currently activating all the isolation procedures required by law, including the census of those who have had contact with him.”
Juventus’ game next Tuesday against Lyon in the second leg of the Champions League will be suspended on Thursday.
All sport in Italy has been suspended until 3 April, with football matches played behind closed doors last weekend, while the Six Nations rugby fixture involving Italy was called off.
