A former Governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, has said Nigeria will not know peace until someone of Igbo extraction becomes the president of the country.

Nwobodo said this on Sunday during his 79th birthday celebration in Enugu.

He said: “Nigeria will not know peace until an Igbo becomes President.”

He also called on Ndigbo to come together to support anybody that is doing well to become the country’s president.

In this regard, he commended the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for uniting everyone in the state.

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, equally praised Ugwuanyi for not discriminating among political parties because he treats everybody equally.

Nwodo who was the chairman of the occasion, said Ugwuanyi has not discriminated against anyone who does not belong to his political party, the Peoples Democratic Party.
He said since Ugwuanyi came to power, he has united the people of the state and this has brought peace to the state, adding: “Ugwuanyi has no boundary.
“We have never had such love that exists in Enugu State today.”
According to Nwodo, Ugwuanyi even tars roads that lead to his political opponents houses and urged future governors not to return Enugu to the former days when people will not attend a funeral ceremony because of party leanings.

He said even in the days of Nwobodo as a governor, Enugu State was not living in peace as it is today, adding: “The next governor should not remind us of old days of acrimony or animosity.”
