“Senator Adeleke is currently in police custody. He was taken into custody in the evening of today 6th May 2019 in connection with ongoing criminal investigations touching on his person.
Meanwhile, in the best tradition of natural justice and fair hearing, he has already been served with the relevant charge sheet containing his alleged offences in the presence of his Attorneys. He will be arraigned in a competent court of law tomorrow, 7th May 2019.”

The arrest is coming just a month after an High Court nullified Senator Ademola Adeleke as the Osun State governorship candidate of the PDP

Adeleke was nullified on grounds that he was not qualified academically for the position. He was dragged to court by two chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Wahab Raheem and Adam Habeeb, accusing him of not possessing the requisite educational qualification (secondary school certificate), to contest for the office of Governor.

The judgement came just days after a Tribunal ruled that he won the 2018 governorship election in the state.
