No fewer than 6,000 members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, the Peoples Democratic Party and the Alliance for Democracy in the Ogun East senatorial district on Monday defected to the African Democratic Congress.

A statement on Monday said the politicians were led by a former member of the AD in Ijebu Ode, Abayomi Mighty.

They were reportedly received into the ADC by the Ogun East Senatorial Chairman of the party,  Ladi Odujirin, at an event at the Ijebu Ode campaign office of Deji Ashiru, the ADC Ogun East senatorial aspirant.

“Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Mighty said they moved to ADC to support Ashiru’s senatorial bid and the party’s ideology of togetherness.

“Mighty, who was once a Nigerian Youth Ambassador to the United Nations, equally mentioned opportunities offered youths by the ADC, as another major reason for their defection.

“Addressing the new party members, Odujirin assured them of a level playing field. He explained that the party was open to any individual or groups who crave for good governance.

“Odujirin, who expressed confidence that the party will win the governorship of Ogun State in 2019, enjoined the new members to continue to mobilize support for ADC.

“The Ogun East senatorial aspirant of the party,  Deji Ashiru, said his aspiration was informed by his desire to engender meaningful development in Ogun East,  through quality legislation,” the statement said.
