ABUJA: Operatives of the Department of the State Security (DSS) and a detachment of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have besieged the residence of the Deputy Senate President, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu, News Express has learnt.

The residence, which was stormed in the early hours of today, Tuesday, is located at Apo in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.

A source told News Express that the aim is to prevent Ekweremadu from presiding over the defection of aggrieved senators of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) since the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, had been invited by the police to report to its headquarters by 8am today.

A report by Daily Sun quoted an aide to Ekweremandu as saying that the country’s number four citizen might be arrested and detained.

News Express earlier broke the news of the storming of Saraki’s residence by men of the NPF, who blocked his convoy from leaving the premises.
