An Ijaw activist and youth leader in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, Mr. Timi Oluba, has said the present Global Memorandum of Understanding, GMoU, between Chevron Nigeria Limited and Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation was marred with irregularities and requires immediate review.

Oluba, who disclosed this, yesterday, in an interview with newsmen, in Benin City Edo State, cautioned the leadership of EGCDF led by Mr. Jude Ukori, not to compromise the collective position and opinion of the host communities to review the GMoU to be signed very soon.
He said: “It is a verifiable fact that what Chevron had given to fund the GMoU over the years was too poor and virtually short-changed the host communities.
This is why the entire oil producing and impacted communities in Egbema and Gbaramatu are demanding for 10 per cent of Chevron’s annual production in Egbema and Gbaramatu to fund the GMoU, and be clearly stated in the reviewed GmoU.
“The faulty GMoU must be critically reviewed to ensure that chairmen and secretaries of various oil producing and impacted communities in Egbema and Gbaramatu also sign the GMoU with Chairman of EGCDF, Jude Ukori, Chevron’s representatives and Delta State Government and copies of the reviewed GMoU be made available to each community.”
