Chevron’s social interventions are driven by needs—Ewing

The chairman and managing director of leading multinational oil giant, Chevron Nigeria/Mid-Africa Business Unit, Mr. Jeffery Ewing, in Lagos on Thursday, revealed that all corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) and social intervention programmes of the company is driven by need of the beneficiaries in Nigeria.

Addressing the 2017 Set of Journalists who has completed training on the Chevron-sponsored Advanced Writing & Reporting Skills (AWAReS) at the prestigious School of Media and Communications (SMC), in Pan Atlantic University (PAU), Lekki, Nigeria, he the company has spent about $100 on Deep Water Social intervention projects and about N7.5bn on educational sponsorships.

Represented by the General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Mr. Esimaje Brikinn, he “We are happy on our partnership with PAU to deploy this programme which we started in 2014. PAU stands out for its academic excellence over the years and there has been lots of positive feedback in line with this from the past participants of the scholarship”.

In his further remarks, Brikinn observed that “One of our core values is partnership. It is our usual practice to partner with relevant stakeholders everywhere we operate, in our efforts to achieve common business and development goals”.

“In Nigeria, we have established enduring partnerships with different stakeholders, among whom are governments, NGOs, business organizations, communities and of course, the media.

He averred that Chevron takes seriously its role as a member of the community in Nigeria and is actively involved in partnering with our stakeholders to implement various projects promoting health, economic, education and environmental development.

He revealed that in keeping with the participatory social investment policy, the company has through its intervention scheme in health, reduced the HIV prevalence in Bayelsa State from 9/1 per cent to 3.8 per

The company has also built and equipped Chest Clinics, science laboratories and related interventions in many states of the federation as part of its contribution to wellbeing of Nigerians and Nigeria.
