Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) has donated a mobile x-ray machine for the diagnosing and monitoring of tuberculosis especially in children in Ondo State.

The machine was donated by the oil giant in partnership with the NNPC JV to the lgbokoda General Hospital.

Chevron General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Esimaje Brikinn, said the machine will also eliminate the spread and co- infection which increase risks or results in deaths.

Brikinn said, “With this donation, not only would tuberculosis receive considerable blow, the machine will improve the diagnosis of other health challenges.

The General Manager, who was represented by CNL Government Affairs Coordinator, Charles Egbuedo, said the gesture will “enable Chevron/ NNPC JVC achieve the aim of promoting quality and equitable health in Nigeria”.

He went on: “Across Nigeria, we have also implemented several health intervention programmes in the areas of malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, mass immunisation of children, river blindness, cancer awareness and primary healthcare.

In his remark, the Chief Medical Director of Igbokoda General Hospital, Dr Babatunde Onakoya, who commended the oil company, said the equipment would relieve the stress of patients travelling long distances for test and diagnosis of ailments.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in his address commended the initiative of the CNL/ NNPC Joint Venture in providing quality health facilities for the people of the coastal communities.

Speaking through his Senior Special Adviser on Oil and Gas, Benson Enikuomehin, Akeredolu assured oil companies of the safety of their investments in the state.

He noted that the state is the most peaceful in the Niger Delta as youths of oil rich communities are now desirous of development and not destruction of oil companies’ facilities.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Mr Citizen Omoseebi, said the oil company had always shown interest in the welfare and health of the host communities.
